Val Ramos Flamenco Ensemble

Lessons

Thank you for your interest in online or in-person Flamenco guitar lessons with international Flamenco guitar Master VAL RAMOS!

Private in-person one-hour lessons can be scheduled for Sunday afternoons (between August 1 and June 30) on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are held at the artist’s Hamden CT home. The lesson fee is $60 payable at the conclusion of the lesson (check or cash accepted).

Online Flamenco guitar lessons can be scheduled for Sunday afternoons between 12 noon and 5 p.m. The fee for a one-hour lesson is $60 on the Zoom platform (fee includes the monthly Zoom subscription cost). Zoom lessons require you downloading and setting up your own Zoom account; good computer speakers are highly recommended.

Beginner and intermediate students are welcome.

Beginner level: students will learn basic Flamenco guitar technique–“rasgueado” (basic strumming), “picado,” arpeggios, trémolo, and thumb work–and exercises to improve technique. They will then start with the simple SEVILLANAS form or “palo” and progress with other palos such as DANZA MORA, FARRUCA and MALAGUEÑA.

Intermediate level: students will learn exercises to improve their Flamenco guitar technique (listed above) and learn new palos, based on their current Flamenco repertoire. Possible forms to learn include FANDANGOS, SEGUIRIYA, SOLEARES, ALEGRIAS, RUMBA FLAMENCA, and BULERIAS.

A professional member of the Connecticut Guitar Society, Val has given master classes with the Connecticut Guitar Society, Center for Music Performance at New York University, Litchfield Jazz Camp, and the Neighborhood Music School (New Haven CT), among others. He has taught Flamenco guitar since 1983.
